Keswick Guardian - Saturday December 16th 1899

Death of a  Keswick soldier - We regret to report the death of Trooper George Thompson ( son of Mr E Thompson of Brigham ) , who died on the 20th of November of  entric fever, in the Umballa Military Hospital ( India ) .  He had completed his first term of service with the colours of the 16th Lancers, but in consequence of the present African trouble he was retained.  The official notification of his death was recieved from Lieut Col  Aylmer.

* George was 25 when he died, he was born at Dacre,  in 1881 the family were at Penruddock , his father Edmund was a platelayer on the railway, by 1891 they were at Brigham, Keswick, George was a agricultural labourer and his father still on the railway,  by 1901 Edmund was the foreman platelayer at Keswick.
